I have recently completed a site for a client, Frankie Small, which required me to import their previous blog posts from Blogger.
When I tried using the built in “Import” service of Wordpress I kept getting the following error.
After searching numerous forums I couldn’t find a straight forward fix. After playing around with some suggestions I combined them into my own solution.
- Firstly log in to your Blogger Account and go to “Settings” and choose “Export blog”. This allows you to export and download an .xml file.
- Second, go to http://blogger2wordpress.appspot.com/ and upload your Blogger .xml file. Then download the Wordpress compatible WXR file.
- Third, in your Wordpress admin go to “Tools” > “Import” and select the Wordpress option. Upload your WXR file and assign the blog posts to yourself or create a new user. All of the images and comments from Blogger are also imported.
So there you have it. One thing you may want to look at is re-uploading the images into your Wordpress Media Library. This means you will be loading your images from your Wordpress blog rather than relying on Blogger to render your images, which I have found is sometimes terrible. If google is running slow then Blogger is running slow, which means the images in your Wordpress blog will take ages to load or in some cases won’t load at all.
